Beijing’s bid for the 2008 Olympic Games has chosen its best historical moment. Through its twenty-odd-year reform and opening to the outside world, China today is not only economic prosperity and national unity but also is that at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Chinese good athletes achieved remarkable achievements as total gold medals standing third on the world’s list so we are now in such a new situation where hundreds of millions of people hope for the Olympic Games.

Beijing’s bid for the Olympic Games is beneficial not only to Beijing itself but also to promoting the unity of the Chinese people and overall development of our national economy. This is because a process of “bid for the Olympic Games” is one of advocating the Olympic spirit. The Olympic spirit is to, through international sports exchange and tournaments, promote human civilization and progress. For Beijing’s bid for the Olympic Games, the Beijing Olympic Games Bid Committee has established such a goal as “the Green Olympics”, “the Humanistic Olympics” and “the Scientific and Technological Olympics”. Therefore, we absolutely believe, through the process of Beijing’s bid for the Olympic Games, not only that tomorrow in Beijing, the sky will be bluer, trees will be greener, water will be more limpid, wind will be clearer and the people will richer but also that it will have such a situation in our whole country as “if we all put together, we can move the highest mountain” so that all the aspects will develop.

In view of the above, we think that Beijing’s bid for the 2008 Olympic Games has favorable climatic, geographical and human conditions and benefits both the nation and the people as well. It is absolutely a right movement so I propose that all the members of the C.P.P.C.C. will support Beijing’s bid for the Olympic Games and, along with all the people in our country, exert ourselves to achieve Beijing’s successful bid for the Olympic Games.
