The jumbo painting jointly by Mr. Yuan Xikun, Director of Jintai Art Museum and master of formative arts and distinguished artist and sculptor Mr.Wyland, was recently exhibited in Washington. Ma Long: What do you think of Mr. Wyland’s last giant painting ── the 100th works created at Chaoyang Park and exhibited there?

Mr. Yuan: “The World Hand in Hand Cheering for the Olympics and Crying Out for Environmental Protection” was fortunately accepted by “Olympic Cultural Festival” of Beijing Olympics, so it was permitted to be displayed in Chaoyang Park during the Games. I am extremely happy about this event. Recently, polar bears have been listed as key animals to be protected in the United States. This coincides with the theme of crying out for environmental protection of my sculpture works “Urgency of Polar Regions”.

So far Mr. Wyland is an artist who persists for the longest period in creating works with themes of aquatic animals. He is well established in sculpture, painting and formative arts. What is more gratifying is what he is doing in advocating environmental protection by mobilizing the mass of the people. He attaches special importance to cultivating in teenagers of different races and countries the sense of environmental protection from their early ages.

I think environmental protection is something global. This is the initial idea of what I have been doing for many years environmental-protection-wise, especially through creations related to terrestrial animals, like “The Patron Saint of Forests” , calling upon people to be concerned about environment.

This event is another successful cooperation after the cooperation for “The Same Wish” in April.

Ma Long: How do you evaluate Mr. Wyland?
Mr. Yuan: Mr. Wyland has been engaged in creations related to aquatic animals for 27 years. In terms of time, number of participants and breadth of creation and venues of exhibitions, well, he is like the American swimmer Phelps. It is difficult to surpass his achievements. His works have a tremendous momentum. They also reflex his breadth of vision and liberal mind.

Ma Long: What do you think is the significance of this event?
Mr. Yuan: This event is a symbolization of China-America friendship. We are living under the same blue sky. Environmental protection also protects the most basic and most fundamental interests of human beings. This is where the significance lies in this event.

MA Long : Quel est votre commentaire sur M. Wieland ?

M. YUAN : M. Wieland s’est élancé depuis 27 ans dans la création des tableaux sur les animaux aquatiques. Personne ne puisse dépasser la durée dans laquelle il a persévérée, le nombre des participants qu’il a pu réunir et l’étendu des régions qu’il a montrées. Ses résultats sont difficiles à surpasser, comme ceux du nageur américain Phelps. Ses œuvres sont grandioses, ce qui reflète également le grand esprit de l’artiste.

Un artista che grida per la protezione ambientale

Ma Long: Come giudica Wyland?
