Hello, every one! I am honored to participate in this activity!
I simply cannot bear seeing a polar bear falling off melting glacier and getting drowned. The polar bear is a miracle created by Mother Nature. Its body is stream-lined, which is a dialectic combination of squareness and roundness, softness and firmness; it runs fast but runs gracefully; it is noble and unsophisticated; it seems to have invincible might, but it looks awkward. It is the patron saint of glacier. They came to this world earlier than we did. However, they might be leaving earlier than we might because of us. We simply cannot shut our eyes to this.

As an artist, what I can do is to erect monuments and sing elegies for them. My works “Urgency of the Polar Regions” is a reflection of the increasingly grave issue related to environment ── green-house effect. On the warming earth there are inclined melting glacier in North Pole, on which there are small polar bears convulsed with fear and their helpless mothers.

Today, my sculpture is laid here. This gigantic spreading is disseminating the concept of environmental protection and encouraging people around the clock in all weather. The reduced sculpture as a prize cup is for awarding those “guardians of the earth” who have devoted themselves to environmental protection. I am deeply touched by the efforts made for environmental protection by the officials of the United nations Environment Protection Programme to put it into practice. That’s why I think the Environment Protection Programme is its best home for the sculpture. I assume that it is the only thing I can do now to give expression to my innermost feelings.

Le 16 février 2009, M. Achim Steiner, secrétaire général adjoint de l’ONU et directeur exécutif de l’Agence de la planification pour l’environnement a reçu, des mains du conservateur YUAN Xikun, la version réduite de la statue « urgence en zone polaire », au siège de l’Agence à Nairobi, capitale du Kenya. La version en miniature de la statue « urgence en zone polaire » sera distribuée aux personnes honorées de « défenseurs de la terre », coupe créée par l’Agence.

Ce jour-là, l’Agence a organisé la cérémonie d’inauguration en l’honneur de l’œuvre « urgence en zone polaire », au thème pro-environnemental, créée par le conservateur YUAN Xikun. Dans son allocution, M. Steiner a hautement apprécié la contribution apportée par YUAN Xikun dans la cause de la protection de l’environnement et affirmé sa haute technique artistique. L’œuvre comprend non seulement une riche teneur, mais aussi elle touche un sujet le plus attiré du monde – changement climatique. Cette statue est posée sur la place devant le building de l’Agence.

Bonjour ! Je suis très heureux d’être parmi vous !

Ce qui me fait le plus mal au cœur, c’est de regarder des images à la télé qu’un ours se glisse du glacier fondant et trouve sa mort dans la noyade. L’ours est une merveille créée par la nature, il a une forme aérodynamique, un être dialectique combiné du rectangle et du cercle, de la tendresse et de la violence : il est rapide, violent et gracieux, sobre et noble, imposant et gauche, il est défenseur divin du glacier. Il est venu sur la terre avant nous et pourrait la quitter avant nous, à cause de nous. Nous ne pouvons pas en fermer les yeux.

En tant qu’artiste, je ne peux que créer des stèles d’honneur pour lui et lui chanter l’élégie. Mon œuvre « urgence en zone polaire » reflète un problème environnemental de plus en plus grave – effets de serre : sur la terre réchauffée, des oursons en plein désarroi et leur maman ne pouvant rien faire sur le glacier fondant et inclinant en zone polaire.

Ma statue géante se pose ici aujourd’hui, elle émet en tous les temps le concept de la protection de l’environnement et nous encourage d’agir. La version réduite de la statue « urgence en zone polaire » est choisie comme la coupe pour honorer les « défenseurs de la terre » qui s’élancent dans la protection de l’environnement. Profondément touché pendant de longues années par les efforts prodigués par les officiels pro-environnementaux de l’ONU, j’ai fait la statue « urgence en zone polaire » et je pense que son installation au siège de l’Agence de la planification pour l’environnement est le meilleur emplacement. Je crois que c’est la seule chose que je puisse faire maintenant pour soulager mon cœur.

El 16 de febrero de 2009, en la sede del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA) en Nairobi, capital de la República de Kenia, el Subsecretario General de las Naciones Unidas y Director Ejecutivo del PNUMA, Achim Steiner, recibió de manos de Yuan Xikun una miniatura de la obra escultórica “Emergencia en el Polo”. La pieza será entregada como copa al ganador del Premio “Guardián de la Tierra” otorgado por el PNUMA.

El mismo día se realizó en el PNUMA la ceremonia de develamiento de la escultura “Emergencia en el Polo” creada por el Director Yuan Xikun, con el tema de la protección ambiental. El Sr. Steiner valoró altamente la contribución del Sr. Yuan Xikun a la causa de la protección ambiental y confirmó su nivel artístico. La escultura no sólo es rica por su profunda connotación, sino que también está en correspondencia con el tópico más candente en el mundo en la actualidad: el cambio climático. La escultura se colocó en la plaza que se halla frente al edificio del PNUMA.

En su discurso, el embajador chino en Kenia, Zhang Ming, hizo énfasis en el mensaje transmitido por la obra escultórica, que nos recuerda que es necesario tomar medidas activas para hacerle frente al cambio climático y nos anima a llevarlas a cabo.

Sencillamente no puedo resistir ver en la televisión a los osos polares cayendo de glaciares derretidos y ahogándose. El oso polar es un milagro creado por la Madre Naturaleza. Su cuerpo es aerodinámico, con una combinación dialéctica de forma cuadrada y redonda, de blandura y dureza. Corre rápidamente, pero con gracia. Es noble y sencillo y parece tener un poder invencible, aunque se ve torpe. Es el patrono de los glaciares. Vinieron a este mundo antes que el hombre. Sin embargo, probablemente se marchen de él antes de lo que podríamos hacerlo nosotros, por culpa nuestra. Sencillamente no podemos cerrar los ojos ante esta situación.”

Como artista, lo que puedo hacer es erigir monumentos y cantar elegías para ellos. Mi obra “Emergencia en el Polo” es un reflejo de un cada vez más grave problema relacionado con el medio ambiente: el efecto de invernadero. En esta Tierra que se calienta hay icebergs que se inclinan y se derriten en el Polo Norte, sobre los cuales hay pequeños osos polares llenos de miedo junto a sus indefensas madres.

Hoy, mi escultura se encuentra aquí. Ella difunde el concepto de protección ambiental y anima a las personas a contribuir a esta tarea las 24 horas del día durante todas las estaciones del año. La mini-escultura es una copa para premiar a aquellos “guardianes de la Tierra” que se han dedicado a la protección ambiental. 16 февраля 2009 года в штаб-квартире Палаты экологии и планирования ООН, расположенной в столице Кении Найроби, Вице-Генеральный секретарь и исполнительлный директор Палаты экологии ООН Ахим Штэйна принял из рук Президента Юань Сикуня скульптуру-министюру《SOS Полюса.》 Эта скульптура-министюра будет выдана Палатой экологии ООН лауреатам “Защитников Глобуса”.
В тот же день была проведена Палатой экологии ООН церемония открытия скульптуры 《SOS Полюса》, направленной на тему экологии и изобретенной Президентом Палаты искусства г-ном Юань Сикунем. Уважаемые гости,
    Добрый день! Очень рад, что имею честь присутствовать на этом мероприятии.
    Мне вообще не терпится, когда вижу на экране телевизора, как белые медведи Северного Полюса скользят с растаянного ледовика и утонут. Белые медведи Северного Полюса – чудо природы. Их тело обтекаемое. Это диалектика квадрата и круглости, мягкости и твердости. Они храбры и изящны, благородны и просты, грозны и непоколебимы. Они раньше нас пришли в этот мир и раньше нас уходят по нашей причине. К этому мы не должны быть безразличными.
    Будучи художником, я могу только создать для них памятник подвига и воспевать их. Мое произведение 《SOS Полюса》 отражает все более суровый вопрос – реакция теплиц: в скульптуре на потеплевшем Земном шаре – наклонные и растаянные ледовики на Северном Полюсе, а на ледовиках – испуганные белые медвежонки Северного Полюса и их беспомощная мать.
    Сегодня моя большая скульптура поставлена здесь. Она здесь все время распространяет концепцию экологии и воодушевляет людей на свою практику. Миниатюра скульптуры 《SOS Полюса》в качестве премии-бокалы будет присвоена “Защитникам глобуса”, вступившим в борьбу за экологию. Cerimonia di scoprimento della scultura “Emergenza delle regioni polari” da parte del direttore del Jintai Art Museum, Yuan Xikun, presso il quartier generale del Programma di protezione ambientale dell’ONU
